Why Big Picture Packaging Exists.

Big Picture Packaging was founded to address a critical gap in the industry. Many businesses operate without an in-house packaging technologist, yet they are expected to meet increasing demands for sustainable, consumer-friendly, and high-performing packaging.

Without deep packaging expertise, brands often face challenges where packaging is not fit for purpose. At its core, packaging must contain, protect, preserve, safely transport and inform—but too often, designs are driven by a single requirement (such as cost or aesthetics), overlooking the full functional picture.

There is also a disconnect between New Product Development (NPD) and execution. Packaging briefs are frequently not translated effectively into production and supply chain requirements, leading to inefficiencies, quality issues, and missed expectations.​

THE FOUNDER

Big Picture Packaging is led by Pratik Surana, a packaging professional with over 13 years of experience across the food and cosmetics sectors.

Having worked within manufacturing environments, Pratik brings a deep understanding of the real-world constraints and pressures faced on the production floor. He recognises the critical role packaging plays in bridging design intent with operational reality—ensuring concepts don’t just look good but actually work in practice.

With the ability to speak both marketing and operations language, Pratik helps align cross-functional teams to deliver packaging solutions that meet brand vision while remaining practical, scalable, and efficient.

Big Picture Packaging was founded on a simple insight: While many stakeholders optimise for their individual requirements, very few step back to consider the entire system. This lack of alignment often leads to packaging that falls short in performance, cost, or sustainability.

Pratik created Big Picture Packaging to bring that holistic perspective—ensuring packaging decisions are made with the big picture in mind. He holds a Diploma in Packaging Technology from the Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP).
